A Wedding Celebration at Renegade Urban Winery

I always enjoy returning to venues I’ve played at before, and this wedding at Renegade Urban Winery was no exception. With all the barrels and winemaking machinery on display, the space has a character that’s hard to match, and the bespoke wines served alongside the celebration made it even more memorable.
Every time I play here, I leave having learned something new about wine, and this time was no different. I even walked away with an amazing bottle to enjoy later!
Working alongside Fear Photography, Oli’s Kitchen and Foil Events, the day flowed beautifully. The couple were genuinely lovely, and the love in the room was palpable, a perfect backdrop for a wedding DJ to do what I love most: connect with the couple, their friends, and family through music.
This wedding really tested my skills as an open-format DJ. The groom is a big fan of Ska and Northern Soul, genres that were a bit of a blind spot in my collection. But after research, digging through tracks, and reaching out to a few DJs in my network, I managed to put together a setlist that captured the spirit of both genres while keeping the evening flowing. It was a great reminder of the value of preparation, and how much fun it is to expand my own musical knowledge.
I’ve always believed in the importance of client consultations for big occasions like Weddings and Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, and this one proved it. Meeting with the couple beforehand allowed me to understand their tastes and vision for the night. Weddings are always a balance: helping the couple hear their favourite music and put their personal stamp on the evening, while also keeping family and friends engaged. A good DJ knows how to navigate these conversations, listen carefully, and guide where needed.
The music on the night was eclectic, reflecting the couple’s tastes: disco, house, leftfield electronica, and party hip hop all featured in a set designed to get everyone moving. There’s something really special about seeing guests of all ages enjoying a night that’s personalised to the couple while still feeling fun and inclusive.
It was an absolute pleasure to be part of this celebration, return to such a unique venue, and share in such a warm, joyful day. Weddings like this are why I love what I do, playing music that tells a story, connects people, and creates memories that last long after the last track.
